Friday 17th May

Year 1 spent the day in Kew Gardens on Wednesday. We explored the gardens, learning about different plants and enjoyed the rose gardens and greenhouses.

We took part in a workshop where we became 'plant hunters'. We collected different materials from plants and used our observational skills to identify and name a variety of common wild and garden plants, including deciduous and evergreen trees. We used descriptive and scientific language to compare and group different plants and trees and the parts of a plant. We created story sticks to help us to identify different trees, taking bark rubbings, examining the tree and collecting fallen leaves and seeds before using an identification key.
